Volunteer opportunities within the practice specialties will help you sharpen your existing skills, develop new skills in a risk-free environment, expand your horizons, become more motivated and energized about safety, increase your visibility within the profession, boost self-satisfaction and demonstrate workplace and leadership skills that can be documented on your resume. Please contribute in any capacity that fits into your life and set of demands. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Krista Sonneson, ASSE Practice Specialties Manager, at ksonneson@asse.org.
ASSE currently offers four Common Interest Groups (CIGs), which are open to all ASSE members. CIGs are intended to provide an arena for safety professors, directors, supervisors, consultants, workers and others who have a common interest in these groups to discuss, research, develop and implement new suggestions, ideas and best practices for these groups and their counterparts. CIG membership costs only $10 per year. To learn more about ASSE’s CIGs or to join one or more, visit the following links or call Customer Service at (847) 699-2929.

Many ASSE members have been affected by the recession. Some have lost their jobs while others have watched their friends and colleagues become victims of downsizing and budget cutbacks. We know how hard it is out there and we want to do something to help. ASSE is launching a new Career Resources website with targeted job hunting tools for safety professionals including job search training modules (for members) and articles organized by subject covering topics like interviewing, job boards, resumes, cover letters, and negotiation. You can check out the new website here.
As part of the new Career Resources website, ASSE is launching a Networking Partners Program, which pairs members currently seeking employment with an employed member in their area that has volunteered to help them network and search for job leads. We’re looking for employed ASSE members to volunteer as networking partners. Networking partners would be asked to communicate with their job seeker on a regular basis, review their job seeker’s resume and provide constructive feedback, provide opportunities for their job seeker to network, and would help facilitate informational meetings. These tasks may seem small but they truly have the potential to change someone’s life. Whether you are a job seeker or a potential networking partner, you can learn more about the program by visiting our website. We hope you’ll sign up today!
